Telling our friends what so and so is really like.
Sharing someone’s secrets with another person.
You get the drift.
We all do it.
And on top of gossiping there is the whole arena of gossip.
And a lot of us like gossip.
There is nothing like hearing some secret or other details of a famous person’s life.
And how much people love to hear gossip about others is evident in that it is a business worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
It’s a huge business.
So lets face it – people love gossiping and hearing or reading juicy gossip.
But gossip has a bad reputation.
How often have we heard – it’s not nice to talk about someone behind their back, stop gossiping I am not interested, and so.
But consider this.
If gossip wasn’t popular why are there so many blogs, websites, newspaper columns, TV shows, books, that are all about gossip?
The television show TMZ, with a vast audience specializes in gossip.
People magazine and many of its imitators are full of gossip.
And the millions of people who watch these TV programs and read the gossip columns and the books are clear indication how popular gossip is with a lot of us.
And gossip has been enshrined in many quotations.
