Once President Trump and Prime Minister Trudeau got along famously. Now Trudeau gets tough and calls out Trump.
The two were always smiling and laughing and shaking hands.
Trudeau was using his charm offensive in the hopes of winning Trump over to agreeing to a speedy and fair new North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
And for a while everyone though Trudeau’s approach worked.
Suddenly Trump turned petulant, started scolding the Trudeau government over its NAFTA approach.
So Trump called Trudeau weak and ineffective.
The so-called bromance between the two had come to a screeching halt.
Today the Prime Minister has had enough. Finally Trudeau gets tough and calls out Trump.
He is standing up to bully Trump in no uncertain terms.
And Trump does not like it one bit.
At the NATO alliance meeting in Brussels Trudeau walked by Trump without acknowledging him.
First up is the spending on defence – one of Trump’s favourite topics.
He constantly is accusing the NATO allies of coughing up enough cash and says it is unfair to the United States, which pay the most into NATO.
“NATO has not treated us fairly, but I think we’ll work something out…We pay far too much and they pay far too little.”
Next up was the liberal attitude Trump displays about Putin.
In Trump’s book it seems Putin can do no wrong.
And this despite the fact that the Russians interfered in the last U.S. election and conducted all sorts of nefarious activities on U.S. soil.
But no one should be surprised how Trump has treated Trudeau.
