So they answered the question on one of America’s highest rated talk show.

TV NEWS IS DYING SLOWLY BUT SURELY

THE STORY

Every day fewer and fewer people are watching a daily newscast. It’s a trend that started years ago.

THE SETTING

Newscasts that once had had millions of viewers are now having a few hundred thousand viewers.
BCTV in Vancouver once was the highest-rated newscast in Canada.
No more.
Their ratings continue to slide.
And their is a constant tug-of-war between who has the higher ratings – BCTV or CTV Vancouver.
And that is a common situation all over North America.

WHAT IT MEANS

So what’s the problem?
Simply put the news audience is old.
And what is even worse, the audience is not changing.
At one point younger people, as they got older, started watching the news.
But that no longer is the case.
The CBC in an attempt to get higher ratings for its new national newscast, The National, changed its format but it it did not work but there was one bright spot.
And that spot is the future.
