Asia Argento #MeToo activist settles sex assault complaint by a former young male actor.
The Italian actress is one of the most prominent members the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.
Jimmy Bennett was 17 at the time of the so-called sexual assault.
He settled for $380,000 (U.S.).
Bennett now is 22.
Los Angeles police have launched an investigation.
Argento, 42, rose to prominence when she became one of the first women to accuse the former movie mogul Harvey Weinstein of sexually assaulting her.
Her boyfriend, the late culinary television star Anthony Bourdain, eagerly was supportive of her.
The story was reported and corroborated by the New York Times.
“But in the months that followed her revelations about Mr. Weinstein last October, Ms. Argento quietly arranged to pay $380,000 to her own accuser: Jimmy Bennett, a young actor and rock musician who said she had sexually assaulted him in a California hotel room years earlier, when he was only two months past his 17th birthday. She was 37. The age of consent in California is 18.
“That claim and the subsequent arrangement for payments are laid out in documents between lawyers for Ms. Argento and Mr. Bennett, a former child actor who once played her son in a movie.”

As part of an agreement reached between the two, Bennett gave the picture and its copyright to Argento.
Neither Bennett or Argento agreed to an interview with the New York Times.
Argento and Bennett co-starred in a 2004 film called The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things in which Argento played Bennett’s prostitute mother.
An actor since childhood, Bennett has a long list of TV and movie credits, including appearances in films such as Daddy Day Care and the rebooted Star Trek, where he played a young James T. Kirk.
