The question: why are Canada’s medical watchdogs hiding bad doctor information from you?
The newspaper – the Toronto Star undertook an 18-month investigation into why this information is being withheld from the public.
And most important – what kind of information is being withheld.
The results are startling and should give all of a sense of what is wrong with the system that allows it.
And why is the information not made public so we all can see it?
And we should be aware of the information so we can make a decision as to whether we want these doctors to be our doctors.
But there is one truth that everyone should keep in mind.
Professional bodies for lawyers, doctors, realtors, accountants, you name them, they always look after their own first. They protect their members first and the public always comes in second if at all.
And that is reality, despite the public pronouncements by these bodies that they are there to make sure the public is protected.
And in the case of doctors the public regulatory bodies do not reveal the information about doctors that were disciplined; even to the point where they stood in thew way of the Toronto’s Stars attempt to get the information.
Patients rely on regulatory bodies to keep them safe so that when they visit a doctor they know they are being treated in a professional manner by a professional.
But don’t bet on that being the case.
Instead, doctors with all sorts of wide-ranging problems are allowed to practice.
To say the situation is horrendous is an understatement.
