False Social Media Post Destroys A Woman's Life

One false malicious social media post by a stranger destroyed an innocent woman’s life.

Her name was Monika Glennon.

Glennon is a realtor and lives in Huntsville, Alabama.

She works for Re?max.

Her nightmare plunge happened three years ago.

Here is how it all started.

Suddenly in September of 2015 she received a phone call at 6 a.m.

It was a colleague of hers from Re/Max telling her that something terrible had been posted about her on the Re/Max Facebook page.

Glennon assumed it was a bad review from a client of hers.

It wasn’t.

It was a link from a website – She’s A Homewrecker.

Its sole purpose is to shame women said to be having illicit sex.

The poster claimed that she and her husband had used Glennon as their realtor.

And she further claimed she had discovered Glennon and her husband having sex in a house that the couple was supposed to view with Glennon.

The posting went into graphic details about the so-called sex.

The story was re-posted on other sites, including one called BadBizReport.is where it has been viewed over 95,000 times. It quickly became the top search result for Glennon’s name on Google.

There was no stopping it.

Within a year, Glennon was experiencing the repercussions: Her number of listings dropped by half. She estimates that she’s lost $200,000 in business since 2015.

Eventually, after $100,000 in attorney’s bills, Glennon was able to unmask the culprit. It turned out to be a complete stranger who had been offended by a comment Glennon had made about a news article on Facebook.

Glennon was horrified to what lengths the stranger went to create a false profile.

A false profile that allowed the poster to post total lies and that gained credibility on social media.
