Giraffe Killer Faces Angry Backlash:
Big game hunters, especially from the United States, love to go to Africa and kill big game animals.
These tours costs thousands and thousands of dollars.
And once these people have killed an animal they want the rest of the world to know about it.
So they post pictures of themselves and the animal they have killed on social media.
And as a rule, the pictures consist of the dead animal and the killer standing with his or her weapon of choice in front of the dead animal with a big smile on their face.
And usually an outrage develops in the Western world speaking out against the practice.
And on the other end of the spectrum are the hunters who see nothing wrong with killing a big game animal.
And the amazing thing, the people in the countries where those big game hunters hunt stay silent.
More than often big game hunting is big business for them.
So it’s best to say nothing and believe in the old adage of silence is golden.
But this time around the situation has changed.
People in Africa are starting to speak out against big game hunting.
And it happened because of a woman from Kentucky.
Her name is Tess Thompson.
She killed a rare giraffe.
And then she did the usual – she posted a picture of herself – gun in tow- before the dead giraffe.
And she posted it on Facebook.
That was last year.
But last month her post consisting of several pictures took on a new life.
Africlandpost, an online news organzation that covers African politics and social issues, struck back at Thompson saying;
“…the animal was a rare black giraffe exploited by a “white American savage.”.
And in a tweet Africlandpost took it a step further in a tweet:
White american savage who is partly a neanderthal comes to Africa and shoot down a very rare black giraffe courtesy of South Africa stupidity. Her name is Tess Thompson Talley. Please share
