Teacher moonlights making big bucks on Instagram.
One teacher says she makes more than $270,000 a year, compared with her teacher’s salary of $66.500.
But she is a rarity.
Her name is Amy Groesbeck.
She is a single mom.
Teachers are moonlighting on Instagram because of their low salaries.
For many teachers it is the only way to make ends meet.
Teachers are considered to be underpaid in the U.S.
The average salary is $58,064 (U.S.) a year.
However, this varies widely between different states.
Mississippi and South Dakota have the lowest average teacher salaries.
They average at $42,925 and $42,668, respectively.
“I’m a single mom, and it’s because of Teachers Pay Teachers that I’ve been able to buy my own home, buy my own vehicle, fund vacations for my family,” she says. “I would never have been able to do it just teaching alone.”
So each evening when she comes home from school her second job begins.
She pulls out her iPad and logs into Instagram.
And that starts her second full-time job.
Teacher Moonlights Making Big Bucks
“I lock myself in the office and spend at least six hours a day working on products and creating images to post on Instagram and things like that,” she says “It really is a second full-time job.”
She has more than 90,000 followers.
So how does she make all that money?
She shares photos of her classroom and what happens in it.
And these items are for sale through Instagram.
A lot of these teachers on Instagram started off as bloggers.
And there is a social media plattform – Teachers Pay Teachers – that allows teachers to sell classroom resources such as worksheets and bulletin board decor.
And the successful teachers migrate from Teachers Pay Teachers to Instagram.
