Trump Receives Trudeau Stiletto

Trump Receives Trudeau Stiletto

Trump receives Trudeau stiletto in a very public way.

Prime Justin Trudeau really stuck it to Donald Trump in several ways.

It happened during the signing ceremony of the new trade deal between the U.S. – Mexico and Canada in Buenos Aires.

“Might as well hold that up,” Trump said.

This was after Trudeau, Trump and Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto signed the deal.

But despite that and other prodding Trudeau refused to follow the other two.

He decided not to hold up his binder to celebrate.

And during the signing ceremony Trudeau pointedly referred to the new agreement as the new North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Trump of course hated NAFTA – calling it one of the worst trade deals in history.

And he renamed it the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

But Trudeau trumped Trump.

In Ottawa the new trade deal is now referred to as the Canada- U.S.- Mexico agreement (CUSMA).

But there is more.

Trudeau added insult to injury by calling Trump – Donald.

Trump hates to be called Donald.

He wants to be called Mr. Trump.

And Trump was seething when Trudeau called him that – all caught on video.

The video has gone viral.

And despite Trump’s assertion that the new deal is one of the “largest, Trade Deals in U.S. and World History”, it is not.

Instead it is NAFTA tweaked with some small changes.

And in typical Trump fashion once the deal had been negotiated provisions of the deal kept changing.

In effect, he tried to screw Canada over and over again.

But no sooner had the deal been signed Trump threatened U.S. politicians with terminating the deal.

The reason?

He is trying to force Congress to decide – ratify the new agreement, or have no agreement with Canada and Mexico at all.

“I’ll be terminating it within a relatively short period of time. We get rid of NAFTA. It’s been a disaster for the United States,” Trump says.

And his threat is predicated by one fact.

In January the Democrats will control the house.

And they have been making noise about not liking parts of the deal and they want changes.

But it isn’t just the Democrats who want to see changes.

Some Republicans feel the same.

Republican Senator Marco Rubio is one.

He tweeted:

“As currently drafted this deal will put Florida seasonal vegetable growers out of business. It allows Mexico to dump government-subsidized produce on the U.S. market.

“Going forward America will depend on Mexico for our winter vegetables. Unacceptable.”

And all of this commotion by Trump towards Canada means that relations are bad between the two countries.

But the fact that Trudeau hit back – he can now – given the agreement is signed is of no surprise.

Trump has no respect for Canada – but then does he respect anyone?
