And in Western society coffee is ingrained in our culture as tea is in Asia.

But all is not well in the land of coffee.

And let’s not forget – countless studies have shown how good coffee is for you from a health standpoint.

Some experts are concerned that the day will come when coffee will go the way of the do-do bird.

Sounds alarmist?

Not really.

Consider this.

One of the largest purveyors of coffee throughout the world – Starbucks – is quite concerned.

And it is conducting serious research on the state of coffee at a coffee plantation in Costa Rica.

The company knows and is concerned about how climate change is affecting the world-wide coffee crops.

With rising temperatures and increasing droughts coffee will become more expensive to grow and buy.

In the words of Starbucks boss Howard Schultz:

“Make no mistake…climate change is going to play a bigger role in affecting the quality and integrity of coffee.”

Your daily cup of coffee is in danger, and by 2050 about half of the world’s top quality coffee producing land could be unproductive, says a report from in the journal, Climate Change.

Another study suggest that the number could be as high as 88 per cent in Latin America.
